# DAS Trader Pro vs Medved Trader: the book in the price, or not

DAS Trader Pro sells the platform and the book as one bill; Medved Trader is $24.99 and shows your broker's data. Which is cheaper depends on that account.

Both are Windows front ends for a US stock day trader. Each has a montage or a Level II window,
time and sales, charts, scripted hotkeys, a scanner and order entry from the ladder. Neither
backtests, and neither runs natively on a Mac. A reader stuck between them has usually seen DAS
at $150 and Medved Trader at $24.99 and wondered what the other $125 buys.

Mostly it buys the data. [DAS Trader Pro](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/das-trader-pro) bought direct is a package of the
platform and a fixed set of books at one monthly price. [Medved Trader](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/medved-trader) is
the platform alone, and shows whatever your broker or data vendor streams to it. So the two figures
cannot be compared until you know where your data will come from. After that, the choice turns on
two things DAS does that Medved Trader's card does not document.

## Which accounts both can use

Bought direct, DAS has three paths: its own simulator, a live Interactive Brokers account, and a
live Charles Schwab account. Medved Trader connects to both of those brokers too. Both need IBKR Pro
rather than Lite, because Lite gives no API access. Interactive Brokers and Schwab are therefore
where the two are real alternatives.

Off those two, they part. Medved Trader connects to TradeStation, tastytrade, Alpaca, Tradier,
ChoiceTrade and Questrade, takes orders only through E*Trade and quotes only from Robinhood, and
reaches futures through Rithmic accounts at several brokers and prop firms. It can run several of
these at once in one layout. DAS reaches most of its traders through the brokers that license it,
each with its own routing, locates and price. If your broker distributes DAS and is not on Medved
Trader's list, the choice has been made for you. Neither card names DAS's distributing brokers, so
check the list.

## What the data costs on each

**DAS puts the books in the package.** Non-professional, bought direct: Basic $100 a month with
Level 1 US equities, Standard $120 with regional data and OPRA or OTC Level 1, Deluxe $150 with
Nasdaq TotalView and OPRA or OTC Level 2, Elite $175 and Premium Elite $200 with every book,
imbalance, float and FX. Prepaying buys no discount, so twelve months of Deluxe is $1,800. The rest
is priced one line at a time, from $5 for IEX DEEP to $100 for the OTC Expert Market, with the
ARCA book at $15 and OPRA or OTC Level 2 at $50.

**Medved Trader puts none of it in.** Premium is $24.99 a month or $239.99 a year, with no tiers
above it, and the company states that data is left to brokers and feed vendors. What you add
depends on the account behind it.

- **Schwab.** Medved Trader's data-sources page, read on 24 October 2026, says Schwab provides
free market data for its clients. The page does not say which books that includes, so whether a
Schwab account shows the depth that DAS Deluxe sells as TotalView is a question for Schwab. If it
does, the comparison is $239.99 a year against $1,800.
- **Interactive Brokers.** IBKR bills its own market-data subscriptions, which no card here
prices. The DAS packages for an IBKR account carry their own data instead.
- **A data vendor.** On the [IQFeed](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/iqfeed) card, a non-professional pays $108.15 a month
for the core service plus $7.35 each for NYSE, Nasdaq and NYSE American, so $130.20, and a $50
startup fee. Nasdaq Level II adds $63. DTN's help-centre tables add a $20 Level II service line
and, beside it, a $24.15 market-depth surcharge; its iqfeed.net page shows the $24.15 alone. That
is about $213 to $237 a month, depending on whether one line or both apply, before Medved Trader's $24.99, against
$150 for DAS Deluxe. The IQFeed card records that DTN's Nasdaq Level II is OpenView, each market
maker's best bid and ask, and that TotalView is on neither DTN fee page, so this is the nearest
comparison the cards allow, and it buys a thinner book than DAS Deluxe.

Medved Trader is the cheaper of the two by a wide margin when the broker supplies the data, and
can be the dearer one when you have to buy the data separately. Medved Trader's card adds two data
limits: some sources give snapshot quotes rather than a stream, and an alert fires only on a symbol
whose data is already streaming.

## Getting the order out

This is DAS's other half, and the reason it costs what it does even where the data is free.

A DAS hotkey is a script that names the route, price offset, size and time in force in one line,
and a `TriggerOrder` clause places the stop or target when the entry fills. DAS advertises routing
to more than 100 destinations, so the venue is chosen per order on the keyboard. An alert can send
a predefined order or basket. Every live package includes a paper training account, and Market
Replay replays a session for practice.

Medved Trader's hotkeys are scripted too, with expressions and variables such as cash, account
value and Level II size. Orders are drawn on the chart and dragged to a new price, and trading
works from a DOM ladder. Its card describes no choice of venue, though. The order goes to your
broker, and the broker routes it.

The direct DAS paths have one gap. Its Locate Tool is not supported on either the IBKR or the
Schwab path, so locates there are requested from the broker, outside DAS. The Medved Trader card
does not mention locates. A short seller on those two brokers should plan on the broker's own
locate screen with either one.

## What Medved Trader adds that DAS does not

**Code.** Medved Trader's Premium includes a WebSocket API in JSON or XML that reaches logins,
positions, orders, streaming data, alerts, scans and portfolios. An MCP server for AI assistants
followed on 20 August 2026, on a plan the release notes do not name. DAS's API is a separate subscription of $100 to $500 a month
for a retail trader. DAS approves it case by case, restricts it to non-commercial order entry, and
gives it no depth-of-book data.

**Markets beyond US stocks.** Medved Trader takes futures through Rithmic and dxFeed, crypto through
exchange connections, and Canadian and Australian accounts. It also has streaming option chains and
an Option Risk Analyzer. On DAS's pages, futures appear only as Level 1 on select contracts and an
E-mini data add-on.

**Leaving.** Medved Trader starts every account with a month of Premium and then drops to a free
mode, capped at 20 symbols and two charts. Payments are refundable in full within 48 hours, and an
annual plan cancelled within 120 days is refunded pro rata. DAS's trial is 14 days for first-time
users and will not run under Parallels or a virtual machine. After it, all sales are final.

## What DAS has that Medved Trader does not

Phone apps, iDAS and DASTrader, with the same Level 2. Medved Trader has no mobile or web version.
DAS also has a following among trade journals. [Tradervue](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/tradervue) imports it
automatically and [Chartlog](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/chartlog) ships a Windows importer that reads its logs. The
Medved Trader card records no journal integration either way.

## What these figures rest on

Both cards were verified on 23 October 2026, all three blocks each, and Schwab's free data comes
from Medved Trader's data-sources page, read on 24 October. The IQFeed prices were re-verified
against DTN's fee pages on 24 October 2026. The yearly totals are this page's arithmetic.

## The recommendation

**Medved Trader** if your account is at Schwab, or at another broker on its list that streams the
books you read. That is $24.99 a month or $239.99 a year against DAS's $1,200 to $2,400. It is also
the one to choose for several accounts in one layout, futures or crypto beside stocks, or an API
without an approval process. Check what your broker's data includes before cancelling anything,
because Medved Trader adds none.

**DAS Trader Pro** the moment choosing the venue for each order from a hotkey is part of how you
trade, because the Medved Trader card documents no such thing. It is also the cheaper one once you
would otherwise buy Level 1 and Nasdaq depth from a vendor. Deluxe at $150 costs less than Medved
Trader plus IQFeed at that card's rates. If your broker distributes DAS and is not on Medved
Trader's list, it is the only one of the two you can use.

## FAQ

### Is Medved Trader really a quarter of the price of DAS Trader Pro?

Only when your broker supplies the data. Medved Trader is $24.99 a month and includes no data. DAS packages bought direct include it, at $100 a month for Level 1 up to $200 for every book. Medved Trader's data-sources page says Schwab gives its clients free market data. Bought instead from IQFeed at that card's rates, Level 1 on the three US equity exchanges plus Nasdaq Level II comes to about $213 to $237 a month before Medved Trader's own fee, depending on which of DTN's depth charges apply.

### Can I use either one with my Interactive Brokers or Schwab account?

Both, and those two are the only live brokers DAS sells direct. Both require IBKR Pro rather than IBKR Lite, because Lite allows no API access. Medved Trader's list also includes TradeStation, tastytrade, Alpaca, Tradier, Questrade, Rithmic futures accounts and others. Brokers that distribute DAS themselves set their own price, and neither card covers them.

### Which one lets me choose the venue for each order?

DAS Trader Pro. Its hotkey scripts name a route in the order itself, and DAS advertises routing to more than 100 destinations. The Medved Trader card describes hotkeys and chart and ladder trading but no per-order venue selection, so its orders go to your broker to route. If directed routing is part of how you trade, confirm it with the broker before relying on either one.

### Which one can I try or get a refund on?

Medved Trader is the more forgiving of the two. Every account starts with a month of Premium free, payments are fully refunded within 48 hours, and an annual plan cancelled within 120 days is refunded pro rata. DAS has a 14-day trial for first-time users that will not run in a virtual machine, and every sale is final.
