## What it is

CapEdge is a free web front end to the SEC's EDGAR corpus, run by Finsight Group, a New York
capital-markets software company. It began as Docoh, which Finsight bought and renamed in October
2022. You search filings and earnings-call transcripts with boolean operators, proximity and
filing-type filters, read a filing with its table of contents beside it, and compare two 10-Ks or
10-Qs as a red-and-green diff. Email alerts fire on a filer (company, fund or person), a keyword
query or a folder of favourites.

Around the documents sit tables built from the same filings: 13F, 13D, 13G, Form 144 and N-PORT
holdings, including bond and ABS positions; S-1, F-1 and S-11 registrations, IPO pricings and the
roadshows currently marketing; recent 10-K, 10-Q and earnings 8-K filings; insider trades;
and income statement, balance sheet and cash flow built from XBRL. A share-price page charts daily
closes against the S&P 500 and lists brokers' ratings and price targets. Those are other
firms' calls, displayed; CapEdge issues no ratings of its own.

## Pricing

Free. The homepage says "CapEdge is 100% free", and there is no pricing page and no paid plan.
Search works without an account, but since the May 2026 release anonymous visitors see truncated
tables: a company's transcript list stops after three rows, and its financial statements stop
after gross profit. A free account unlocks the rest.

## Data & coverage

SEC registrants only, which includes foreign companies filing 20-Fs and 40-Fs and nothing else
from outside the US. The help pages say filings go back to the start of electronic filing in the
1990s. The exception is ownership forms (13F, 3, 4 and 5), which go back only 5–10 years. They
also say new filings appear within one to two minutes of reaching EDGAR. The site claims more than
27 million filings.

Financial statements are mapped to the FASB US-GAAP taxonomy and run ten fiscal years on Meta's
page (2016–2025). The help page warns that a blank is not a zero, that subtotals need not sum, and
that missing quarters are interpolated. CapEdge names Financial Modeling Prep as its supplier
of market data, and the company pages carry an FMP attribution. The transcript source and
archive depth are not published.

## Integrations

None. There is no API, webhook, client library, MCP server or spreadsheet add-in. Data leaves as
CSV, one table at a time, and email alerts are the only push. The knowledge base still describes
a Docoh iPhone app, but no app under either name appears in the US App Store.

## Limitations

- The product is in the middle of a rewrite. In July 2025 the team announced a rewrite running
through Q1 2026 and warned it would be "moving fast" and breaking things. In the roadmap updated in June 2026, search results
  were still work in progress.
- The documentation lags the product. Help articles name IEX as a data provider, an iPhone app
that cannot be found, and the 2021 Docoh terms.
- The release notes admit to 13F errors. Convertible-bond principal was counted as shares, and a
  fix shipped in December 2025.
- No programmatic access, and the terms forbid scraping public pages.
- Custom metrics in the financials are not normalised, so cross-company comparisons break on
  anything beyond standard GAAP lines.
- There are no labelled exhibits or extracted contract lists of the kind BamSEC builds.

## Alternatives

[BamSEC](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/bamsec) is the paid version of the same job, more careful with the documents
themselves. [SEC EDGAR](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/sec-edgar) is the free source underneath, with official full-text
search but no transcripts. For 13F history back to 2001, use [WhaleWisdom](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/whalewisdom). For the
programmatic access CapEdge refuses, see [sec-api.io](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/sec-api-io) or
[SEC EDGAR MCP](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/sec-edgar-mcp). For calls and decks, [Quartr](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/quartr).

## FAQ

### Is CapEdge really free, and what pays for it?

Yes — the homepage states CapEdge is 100% free, and there is no pricing page or paid plan. It is run by Finsight Group, whose revenue comes from institutional products such as Deal Roadshow, DealVDR and Evercall. CapEdge's IPO pages link straight into retail roadshows hosted on Deal Roadshow, which is the visible tie between the free product and the paid business.

### What happened to Docoh?

Finsight Group bought Docoh from Eighty-Five Technologies of Toronto and renamed it CapEdge, announced on 5 October 2022. The knowledge base still carries Docoh-era pages, including a 2021 terms document naming the old owner; the terms the site itself links to are Finsight's own, which name CapEdge.com among the sites they govern.

### Does CapEdge have an API, or can I scrape it?

Neither. The knowledge-base answer to whether CapEdge offers APIs is "not at this time", and Finsight's terms forbid collecting data from its sites by bots, scrapers or scripts without written permission, public pages included. Data leaves as CSV downloads from individual tables.

### How does CapEdge differ from BamSEC?

CapEdge is free and has more around the filings — 13F and N-PORT holdings, IPO registrations and pricings, financial statements as CSV. [BamSEC](/tools/bamsec) costs $69 a month billed annually and does the document work more carefully, with labelled filings, extracted key exhibits and one-click table downloads to Excel.
