## What it is

A financial news API with three parts: a query API that searches the corpus, a websocket stream
that pushes newly indexed articles, and a render API that returns article content. The vendor
claims new articles are indexed "in under 500 milliseconds after publication", and that its NLP
tags each article with the ticker symbols of the companies mentioned in it.

The corpus is the point. Roughly twenty-five named sources sit in one index: Bloomberg, Reuters,
CNBC, the Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Seeking Alpha, Benzinga, S&P Global and the PR wires
(PR Newswire, GlobeNewswire, BusinessWire, AccessWire), plus earnings-call transcripts and a row
of US government feeds — SEC filings and press releases, FDA drug approvals, USPTO, FCC, CFTC,
SAM.gov and ClinicalTrials.gov. Querying an 8-K, a Reuters story and an FDA approval in one
request, and getting them pushed rather than polled, is the thing being sold.

## Pricing

Four tiers, and the page opens on month-to-month, so the headline figures are the ones you pay
without committing a year. The annual toggle is labelled "10% discount" but actually takes Basic
from $35 to $29 — nearer 17%.

The free Starter tier is real but deliberately crippled: 100 calls a day, five articles per
request, new articles withheld for an hour, and search restricted to the last month. Basic at $35
buys real-time access and a year of history. **The websocket stream — the reason to choose this
over polling anything else — does not appear until Professional at $65**, which is also where the
article scraper and the 99.95% SLA start. Enterprise is quote-only through a partners address.

## Data & coverage

History is capped hard and by tier: one month on Starter, one year on Basic, four years on
Professional. Enterprise buys more requests and more articles per request, but **not more
history** — it is four years there too. There is no price or fundamentals data of any kind; this
is text about companies, not market data.

## Integrations

Plain HTTP POST with a JSON body and a Lucene-style `queryString`, which makes field queries like
`symbols:AAPL` straightforward. The stream is socket.io or raw websocket, so any language with a
client can hold the connection. The documentation ships copy-paste examples in curl, Python and
Node.js; the Python one is plain `requests`, and the only SDK named anywhere is the vendor's
`financial-news-api` npm package, one version, published December 2022. A Discord news bot is
documented as a separate front end.

## Limitations

**The SEC filings source appears to have stopped on 24 April 2026.** The site's own landing-page
SEC feed (`articles-sec.json`) was regenerated on 14 September 2026 and contained twenty filings,
every one of them timestamped 24 April 2026 — 424B2 prospectuses, Form 4s, proxy statements and a
single 8-K, nothing newer. The IPO feed stopped on the same date. Meanwhile the press-release
feeds were carrying BusinessWire items published on 14 September 2026 at 15:30 UTC, so the ingest
pipeline is running; the filings half of it is not producing. One of the four uses the
documentation advertises for the stream is "informing traders and investors in real-time when a
new SEC 8-K or 10-Q filing is published" — verify that against a live key before paying for it.

**Some other feeds have rotted too, one of them by years.** Checked the same day: the S&P Global
feed's newest item was 15 November 2024, the general latest-news feed has not changed since
13 April 2023, and the insider-trading feeds have been frozen since 5 January 2021; Reuters
stopped at 6 August 2026. The Bloomberg, CNBC, FDA, earnings and transcript feeds were all
carrying items from that same afternoon, so this is per-source rot and not a dead pipeline.

**Getting a key has been reported broken since 2024.** An issue on the vendor's own GitHub
repository, opened 18 June 2024 and still open, reports that trying to generate a free Starter key
lands on an account page showing only an email address and no key, with no reply from support.
Four more people have commented on it since, the last in February 2026, and none of the comments
is the vendor's. Both the bot-block page and the API's invalid-key error tell you to email support
for a key rather than self-serve.

**Four years of history is less than the free alternative.** EDGAR full-text search costs nothing
and reaches back to 2001, so on filings the paid archive here is the shallower one.

**Redistribution needs a written licence, under terms that predate the product.** The terms grant
access "for your own personal internal use" and require a written licence before any collection,
aggregation, display or derivative use for any purpose beyond that, commercial ones included. They
carry a revision date of 30 September 2019, still describe Robinhood and TradeIt account linking
and an Apple App Store build, and never mention Newsfilter's own API. The published documentation
carries 2021 and 2022 copyright lines.

### Is NewsFilter.io still running?

The site and the API host both answer. On 14 September 2026 the API root returned an online status, the auth-gated search endpoint returned a proper 403, and the site's press-release feeds carried items published that same afternoon. What is not current is the SEC filings source — see the next answer.

### Does NewsFilter.io still deliver SEC filings?

Not as far as the vendor's own public feeds show. The site's landing-page SEC file, regenerated on 14 September 2026, held twenty filings and every one of them was dated 24 April 2026. The IPO feed stopped the same day. Treat the SEC half as unverified until the vendor says otherwise.

### What does this do that free SEC EDGAR full-text search does not?

Two things. It puts filings in one searchable index alongside Bloomberg, Reuters, CNBC, the PR wires, FDA approvals, USPTO and SAM.gov, so one query spans all of them; and it pushes matches over a websocket instead of making you poll. EDGAR is free, accepts tickers, and its full text reaches back to 2001 — far deeper than the four years sold here.

### Can I redistribute NewsFilter.io content to my own users?

Not without a separate written licence. The terms grant a licence for "your own personal internal use" only, and state that any collection, aggregation, display or derivative use for other purposes, commercial ones included, requires a written licence first.
