## What it is

Sharadar is a small US data publisher, founded in 2013, that builds its own fundamentals from SEC
filings and reconciles each figure back to the filing it came from. For a decade it was known
almost entirely as a dataset on Quandl and then [Nasdaq Data Link](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/nasdaq-data-link) — the
`SHARADAR/SF1` table code is still how most people search for it, and it is one of the publisher
datasets that outlived the emptying of Quandl's free catalogue (see
[what replaced Quandl](https://stockmarketstack.com/alternatives/quandl)). On 4 October 2026 every Sharadar table on Nasdaq's
API reported a refresh that same morning.

On 27 July 2026 it launched a direct, self-serve storefront for individuals: sign up, pay by card,
get a key. The tables are the same ones Nasdaq sells — fourteen of them, from a securities master
and fundamentals to end-of-day prices, insider trades and 13F holdings. The split between the two
routes is the licence, not the data: sharadar.com sells only a Personal Use Licence, and Sharadar
sends anyone buying for a firm back to Nasdaq.

## Pricing

Three products and a bundle, each in three history lengths: 5 years, 10 years or full history.
The 5-year column is the one in the big type, so the cheapest headline is misleading — the
29-dollar Bundle is five years of every table, and the full-history Bundle is 69 dollars a month
or 499 a year. Bought individually at full history, Fundamentals, Prices and Investors are 39
dollars a month each; billed annually, Prices and Investors drop to 299 a year and Fundamentals
to 399.
Subscriptions can be upgraded, paused for up to three months, or cancelled at period end from the
account page; payments already made are not refunded.

The free sample is the 30 Dow stocks over five years, and it is real data in the real schema,
which makes it enough to write and test a pipeline before paying.

Commercial licences — any use by or for an organisation — are sold only through Nasdaq Data Link,
whose product pages for these tables carry no price.

## Data & coverage

US-listed equities only, including ADRs and Canadian issuers that trade on US exchanges, all
end-of-day. Figures below are Sharadar's own, from its bundle page on 4 October 2026:

- **Fundamentals (SF1):** around 150 indicators for nearly 18,000 active and delisted companies,
quarterly, annual and trailing twelve months, from January 1998. Updated at 17:30 and 23:30 ET.
- **Stock prices (SEP):** 21,000 tickers; **fund prices (SFP):** 10,000 ETFs, closed-end funds
and similar. Open, high, low, close and volume are split-adjusted; `closeunadj` and `closeadj`
(splits, dividends and spinoffs) let you derive the other two series.
- **Insiders (SF2):** 16,000 tickers and more than 200,000 insiders, from 2008.
- **Institutional holdings (SF3, SF3A, SF3B):** 13F holdings for 31,000 tickers and 13,000
investors from 2013, by position, by ticker and by investor.
- **Reference tables:** corporate actions (including acquisition cash and stock consideration,
SIC and listing-venue changes), material events, historical S&P 500 constituents, daily
valuation metrics, and a `permaticker` that survives ticker changes.

The figures do not quite agree across storefronts, or even across Sharadar's own pages. The launch
post says fundamentals history runs from 1999, and Nasdaq's SF1 page, read the same day, still
says more than 16,000 companies and up to 24 years. Check the series you need in the sample before
relying on the first year.

## Integrations

A REST API at `api.sharadar.com` returning CSV by default or JSON, with filters on ticker, date
ranges and field lists, and a 10,000-row default page. Read the defaults: on the actions table `from` defaults to one year
ago and `to` to the prior day, so a request with no date range returns one year of the history. For whole tables there is a bulk route that
redirects to a zipped CSV at the history length you paid for, and Sharadar publishes PostgreSQL,
SQLite and MySQL schemas for every table without a key. There is no first-party Python package for
the direct API; on the Nasdaq route the tables work with Nasdaq's own client libraries.

## Limitations

- **Personal use only, strictly.** The licence excludes every kind of entity, forbids sharing the
data or derived data that reproduces it, and requires deleting all copies within 30 days of
cancelling. Backtests, models and trade logs may be kept.
- **The licence also forbids publishing an evaluation** of the data's quality or fitness without
Sharadar's permission — so independent reviews of its accuracy are scarce by design.
- **End-of-day and US only.** No intraday bars, no estimates or guidance, no options, no non-US
  listings.
- **99%, not 100%.** Sharadar says the remaining gap in delisted coverage comes from malformed old
  electronic filings.
- **No published commercial price.** A small fund or a startup cannot see what Nasdaq will charge
  before a sales conversation.

## Alternatives

[SimFin](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/simfin) is the nearest like-for-like — US fundamentals extracted from filings,
with as-reported variants and bulk CSV — and its PRO plan carries a commercial licence for
internal use, which Sharadar's direct store does not sell at any price.
[Norgate Data](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/norgate-data) is the usual choice when survivorship-free prices and index
membership matter more than statements. [Financial Modeling Prep](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/financial-modeling-prep)
and [EODHD](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/eodhd) cover far more markets at a similar price, with less attention to
point-in-time history. For a guided route, see
[backtesting on survivorship-free data](https://stockmarketstack.com/how-to/backtest-on-survivorship-free-data).

## FAQ

### Is Sharadar on sharadar.com the same data as Sharadar on Nasdaq Data Link?

The same tables under two storefronts. Since 27 July 2026 individuals can buy direct at sharadar.com, where the old codes (SF1, SEP, SFP, SF2, SF3) still work as table names; firms keep buying through Nasdaq Data Link. The two APIs are separate — a sharadar.com key does not work against data.nasdaq.com or with the nasdaqdatalink library.

### Is Sharadar data point-in-time and survivorship-bias-free?

The fundamentals table carries both views. The As-Reported dimensions (ARQ, ARY, ART) are indexed to the date the 10-K or 10-Q reached the SEC and are never rewritten by a restatement; the Most-Recent dimensions (MRQ, MRY, MRT) are. Delisted companies sit in the same tables, and Sharadar estimates its coverage at 99% free of survivorship bias, not 100%.

### What does the free Sharadar sample include?

All 30 Dow Jones Industrial Average stocks, with fundamentals, prices and corporate actions for the last five years. The documented test-api-key returns them without sign-up; on 4 October 2026 it served MSFT and NVDA and refused TSLA with a 403 reading Exceeds free tier.

### Can I use a Sharadar personal subscription at work or in an app?

No. The Personal Use Licence covers a natural person trading their own account or doing their own research, and excludes companies, funds, schools and anyone working for clients. Publishing the data, or anything it can be reverse-engineered from, is forbidden. Commercial use goes through Nasdaq Data Link, which publishes no price for it.
