## What it is

Tiingo is an end-of-day price API with a web app bolted on the side. The thing it is bought for
is history: adjusted daily bars for 80,000-plus tickers — US equities, ETFs, mutual funds and
Chinese A-shares — going back to 1962 for the names that have been around that long. Everything
else in the catalogue (an IEX-sourced real-time endpoint, 4,100-plus crypto tickers, 140-plus
forex pairs still marked beta, a news feed) hangs off that.

The web app also carries a screener with saved screens and custom metrics, and saved portfolios.
They are real, but they are screens in a browser rather than API endpoints, and nobody subscribes
for them; they are what makes the $30 look generous next to an API-only competitor.

## Pricing

Three tiers, and the important line is not the price but the licence. Starter is free: 50
requests an hour, 1,000 a day, 500 unique symbols a month, 1 GB of bandwidth. Power is $30 a
month or $300 a year and lifts that to 10,000 requests an hour, 100,000 a day and 40 GB — but it
is a personal, internal-use licence. To use the data inside a company you need the Commercial
plan at $50 a month or $499 a year, which raises the caps to 20,000 requests an hour, 150,000 a
day and 100 GB and licenses internal use for up to two developers. More developers, or any
redistribution, is a sales conversation.

Two add-ons sit outside that. Fundamentals over the API come from a third-party provider and are
priced by history depth: on Power, $9.99 a month for three years, $29.99 for ten and $49.99 for
the full 20-plus; a business can buy only the 20-plus-year tier, at $100 a month for a start-up
or $200 for an enterprise. Overnight (BOATS) data, launched in beta on 21 July 2026, is $9 a
month on top of Power or Commercial and is not offered on the free tier.

## Data & coverage

US and Chinese exchanges for equities; crypto and forex are global. Rate limits are measured per
hour, per day and per month of bandwidth — there is no per-minute or per-second cap, which suits
a nightly backfill better than a live loop. Responses come as JSON or CSV, with CSV documented as
the faster of the two.

## Integrations

REST for everything, WebSocket for crypto, forex and the real-time equity feeds. The Python
client is community-maintained rather than vendor-shipped, as are the several MCP servers that
wrap the API. Tiingo ships no spreadsheet add-in of its own, though its integrations page lists
third-party Excel plugins.

## Limitations

- No options, no futures, no bonds. If you price derivatives, this is the wrong provider.
- Redistribution is prohibited on every self-serve plan; showing the data to your own users
  needs a separate display-redistribution licence, from $250 a month for start-ups.
- Fundamentals left the subscription: the API dataset is a third-party provider's, sold as an
add-on, and the free plan sees three years of the Dow 30 and nothing more.
- The production real-time equity data is IEX-derived, and the entitled fields — last sale, bid,
ask and their sizes — need a market data agreement signed with IEX. A consolidated snapshot
endpoint arrived in July 2026, but it is beta and the docs still send production users to IEX.
- Forex is still labelled beta.

## Alternatives

[Massive](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/massive) (formerly Polygon.io) if you need tick-level US data or options, and are willing to pay per asset class.
[Alpha Vantage](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/alpha-vantage) if the free tier matters more than the history depth. Neither covers Chinese
A-shares.

The rest of the field is in [market data APIs](https://stockmarketstack.com/categories/market-data-apis).

## FAQ

### What does Tiingo's free tier actually allow?

The Starter plan costs nothing and gives 50 requests an hour, 1,000 a day, 500 unique symbols a month and 1 GB of bandwidth. That is enough to backfill a watchlist of a few hundred names, not enough to pull a universe.

### Can I redistribute Tiingo data in my own product?

No. Power is a personal internal-use licence — the wording is that you may only use the data for your own personal use and may not display or share it with another person or organisation. Commercial extends that to one organisation and up to two developers, still with no outside sharing. Showing the data to your own users needs a separate display-redistribution licence, listed from $250 a month for start-ups and $500 for enterprises on the end-of-day plus IEX feeds.

### How far back does Tiingo's price history go?

End-of-day equity history reaches 1962 for eligible names, split- and dividend-adjusted or raw. Intraday and crypto histories are much shorter, and fundamentals reach 20-plus years, back to the 1990s.

### Is fundamental data included in the API subscription?

Not in full. The fundamentals API is a third-party dataset sold as an add-on. The free plan sees three years of the Dow 30, and depth is priced — $9.99, $29.99 or $49.99 a month for three, ten or 20-plus years on top of Power. A business can buy only the 20-plus-year tier, at $100 a month for a start-up or $200 for an enterprise.
