## What it is

A Windows desktop application that turns broker statements into a trade database and then reports
on it. You import executions, it builds round-trip positions, and every position carries an
attached rich-text note, tags, the stop and target you set, and a chart with the trades plotted.
Above that sit the reports that make it more of an analytics tool than a diary: an equity curve
built from net asset value rather than closed trades alone, time-weighted and internal rate of
return, Sharpe and Sortino against a benchmark, drawdown, R multiples, MAE and MFE, and a capital
gains report. It is made by Sword Tech Kft., a Hungarian company, whose copyright line on the site runs from 2009.

## Pricing

A $149 licence, bought once, covering two PCs and a year of upgrades. After the first year,
$49 a year keeps you on new versions; stop paying and the copy you have keeps working, but newer
builds are not licensed for you. Let it lapse more than six months and the vendor sells a new
licence at half price, $74.50. Refunds are partial — the vendor keeps $10 of a new order, $5 of a
renewal.

The 30-day trial is the full program except that the capital gains report cannot be exported and
shows only its first 100 rows. When it ends the database becomes read-only rather than locked.

## Data & coverage

Stocks, options and futures options, futures, forex, CFDs, warrants and bonds, per the vendor's
FAQ. Options get their own handling: more than 25 strategies — verticals, calendars, diagonals,
condors, straddles, collars, covered calls — are recognised from the legs, with adjustments and
custom strategies. Prices come from end-of-day history downloads through Interactive Brokers,
MetaTrader 4, FXCM, OANDA, Questrade or Yahoo Finance; there is no live feed. The tax report
can be produced in a currency other than your base, with central-bank exchange rates downloaded for EUR, CAD, AUD, CZK, HUF and PLN, and follows the Australian tax year for AUD.

## Integrations

The import table lists 31 brokers and platforms plus a generic Excel/CSV importer: Interactive
Brokers (and CapTrader through it), Charles Schwab, Fidelity, E*Trade, Ally, Tastyworks,
Thinkorswim, TradeStation, Questrade, Qtrade, Scotia iTrade, Degiro, WH Selfinvest, KBC Equitas,
Bell Direct, Commonwealth Securities, NinjaTrader, Rithmic, Sierra Chart, MetaTrader 4, FXCM,
OANDA and a handful of futures and forex brokers. Interactive Brokers and Questrade are pulled
through an API; the rest are files, which a folder-watch service can import as they land.

Version 26.2, released 24 September 2026, added a built-in MCP server: read-only, bound to
127.0.0.1, token-protected, and exposing 11 tools over accounts, executions, positions, open
positions, cash transactions and equity. Claude Desktop reaches it through the `mcp-remote` bridge,
which needs Node.js installed.

## Limitations

- Windows only. No macOS, Linux, web or mobile version, and the database is a single SQL Server
Compact file that cannot live on a network share, so it does not sync between two machines.
- The import table is out of date in both directions. It still lists Scottrade, TD Ameritrade,
TradeMonster and GFT Forex, all gone, while the release notes name Webull, Robinhood, MetaTrader 5,
CQG and First Trade modules the table does not list. Ask about your broker before buying.
- Releases stopped for over two years: version 24.1 shipped in February 2024 and the next,
26.1, in June 2026, with 26.2 in September. A broker format change in that gap would have
gone unfixed for as long. The help centre's requirements page still lists Windows Vista to
  Windows 10 and .NET 4.6.
- The licence phones home; five days without validation turns the program read-only.
- The MCP server reads the diary only while the desktop app is open, and whatever it returns is
sent to the AI provider as part of the conversation.
- No crypto support is listed among its asset categories.

## Alternatives

[Edgewonk](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/edgewonk) is the other journal sold as an annual flat fee, and runs in a browser
on any OS. [TradeNote](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/tradenote) is the free, self-hosted option for anyone who wants their
trades on their own machine without Windows. [Tradervue](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/tradervue) has a longer broker list
and nothing to install. If the tax report is the reason you are here, [TradeLog](https://stockmarketstack.com/tools/tradelog)
is built for US trader tax accounting rather than review.

## FAQ

### Is TradingDiary Pro a subscription?

Not exactly. The licence is a one-time $149 that includes a year of upgrades; after that, $49 a year buys further upgrades and support. If you stop paying, the version you have keeps working, but you are not licensed to install newer ones — which matters, because broker statement formats change and the import modules are fixed in new versions.

### Does TradingDiary Pro run on a Mac?

The vendor's downloads page offers only Windows installers, a 64-bit and a 32-bit build, and the database engine is Microsoft SQL Server Compact. No macOS or Linux build is offered.

### Which brokers import automatically?

Interactive Brokers and Questrade are the two pulled through an API, with Interactive Brokers using Flex Queries over its web service. Everything else in the import table is a statement or CSV file you download from the broker and load, which a folder-watch service can pick up automatically.

### What does the MCP server do?

Since version 26.2 of 24 September 2026, the app runs a read-only, token-protected MCP server on 127.0.0.1 that lets Claude Desktop or another MCP client query your open diary through 11 tools — accounts, trades, positions, open positions, cash transactions and the equity curve. It cannot change anything, and it only works while the app is open.

### Can I use it without an internet connection?

Partly. The licence is validated against the vendor's server, and after five days without a successful check the program drops to read-only mode until it can validate again.
