The product
IEX Cloud was the data business of IEX Group, the exchange. It sold US market data over plain REST — quotes, company fundamentals, news, reference data — metered in credits, with a free tier generous enough that a large number of side projects, tutorials and student assignments were built on it. For several years it was the default answer to "where do I get stock data for a script".
On 31 May 2024 IEX Group announced it would retire all IEX Cloud products. On 31 August 2024 the endpoints stopped answering.
What to use instead
Nothing replaces it whole, because IEX Cloud was three products in a trench coat — a quote API, a fundamentals API and a news API — and the catalogue's providers specialise.
If what you had was a quote endpoint and a free tier, start with Massive or Finnhub, and note that Alpaca gives away real-time IEX data permanently.
If what you had was fundamentals, Financial Modeling Prep is the closest in shape and price.
If the US-only limit was a constraint you had been working around, Twelve Data and EODHD are the two in this catalogue whose whole pitch is coverage outside the US.
What you give up
One bill and one client. IEX Cloud's appeal was that quotes and fundamentals came from the same key. Replacing it usually means two providers, two rate limits and two sets of ticker conventions to reconcile.
Credit-based pricing. Most of the replacements sell per-minute request limits or per-dataset subscriptions rather than a pool of credits you draw down. Bursty workloads that suited credits suit these plans badly, and it is the single most common billing surprise after a migration.
Migration notes
Check redistribution before anything else. IEX Cloud's terms were unusually permissive for a hobbyist, and several of the replacements are not — displaying prices to anyone but yourself is a separately licensed thing on most of this list. A project that was compliant on IEX Cloud is not automatically compliant anywhere else, and that is a contract question rather than a code one.
Second, expect the ticker universe to move. Delisted symbols, class shares and non-US listings are named differently by every provider here, and a stored history keyed on IEX Cloud's symbols will need a mapping pass rather than a find-and-replace.

When exactly did IEX Cloud shut down?
IEX Group announced the wind-down on 31 May 2024 and turned the service off on 31 August 2024 — three months of notice. Endpoints under cloud.iexapis.com stopped answering and accounts were deactivated. There was no successor product and no migration path offered by IEX itself.
Why did it close if it had users?
By IEX Group's own account the data business was a small share of group revenue and had not been profitable, and the company chose to refocus on running the exchange. That is worth noting when choosing a replacement — the failure mode was not technical, and a data API run as a side business by a company whose main business is something else carries the same risk whoever operates it.
Is there a drop-in replacement for the IEX Cloud API?
No. Nothing in this catalogue matches its endpoint shapes, its credit accounting or its particular bundle of quotes plus fundamentals plus news. What exists is a set of providers that each cover part of it, which is why the list on this page is six entries rather than one. Expect to rewrite the client layer rather than change a base URL.
Can I still get IEX venue data?
Yes, and free. Alpaca serves real-time IEX data on its free tier with no expiry. That is data from the IEX exchange, which is what IEX Cloud was named for — it is not the IEX Cloud product, and it is one venue rather than the consolidated tape.
