TradeJARnal
A manual-entry trade journal that grades each trade on your own rules, never on its P&L.
Best for traders of stocks, options, futures or crypto who will type each fill and want every trade graded against their own written rules; not for anyone wanting broker import, a free plan, a phone app or a refund.

What it is
A web trading journal built around one number that is not money. When you log a trade you tick each of your own rules as followed, violated or not applicable, starting from 36 built-in ones across pre-trade, during-trade and post-trade, and each trade keeps the rule list as it stood when saved. On Pro, a fixed formula turns those ticks into a Process Score and a letter grade from A+ to F, with the rule-by-rule working shown. P&L, ticker and size are not inputs, so a disciplined loss can grade A and a rule-breaking win F; a broken rule marked non-negotiable caps the score, and a mostly blank checklist gets no grade at all.
Around that sit the usual journal parts: entry, exit, setup, mistake and emotion tags, notes and an annotated chart screenshot per trade, a calendar, and analytics covering win rate, equity curve, P&L by weekday and emotion against P&L. Options trades take any number of fills, with weighted entry and exit, contracts remaining and realised P&L on the part closed. Pro adds a playbook compliance report, which compares trades that kept every rule with those that broke one, P&L by setup and by half-hour slot, and three AI features. AI chart analysis reads trade details off a screenshot. The Adaptive Process Coach picks the rule you break most often and writes one thing to work on. A weekly report is emailed every Saturday. None of them suggests a trade or sets the grade.
The site's terms, refund policy and footer name Cape Fear Digital LLC, a North Carolina web and software studio, as the owner of the platform and the party that bills. Cape Fear Digital's own site lists TradeJARnal as a separately branded journal built on the white-label platform it licenses to trading educators. The domain was registered in August 2026 and the current terms are dated 30 September 2026, so the product is weeks old.
Pricing
Two plans, monthly through Stripe: Essential at $9.99 and Pro at $14.99. The page lists $99.99 and $149.99 a year, but says annual checkout opens "once billing is live", so on 2026-11-04 only monthly billing could be bought. A new account gets 14 days of Pro without a card, and the trial lapses rather than converting. The refund policy is no refunds on any period once it has begun, with exceptions at the vendor's discretion. Deleting the account does not cancel the subscription; that is done separately in the billing portal.
Data & coverage
Stocks, options, futures and crypto, each with its own entry form; forex is not mentioned. There is no market data: no quotes, no price charts of the trade and no MFE or MAE, because the journal knows only what you type and the screenshot you attach. Every price on the site is in dollars and every example ticker is US-listed; no exchange, currency setting or non-US market is named.
Integrations
None with brokers or platforms, in either direction. Out, Pro exports CSV, which carries the options executions and realised figures, and PDF; Essential exports nothing. No API, webhooks or MCP server. The AI features run on Anthropic's API, and the privacy policy lists what each one sends.
Limitations
- Every trade is typed by hand. An active day trader logging twenty fills a day pays for that in time, and a mistyped fill becomes a wrong P&L with nothing to check it against.
- The grade is only as honest as your ticks: you score your own adherence to your own rules, and the engine has no way to see whether a rule was really kept.
- Essential has no export at all, so leaving that plan means upgrading first or leaving the data.
- No refunds, and annual billing was not yet on sale on 2026-11-04.
- Web only; the site mentions no iOS or Android app.
- New: the domain dates from August 2026, and the weekly report sends tickers and P&L figures to a third-party AI service.
Alternatives
Edgewonk is the established discipline-first journal, with its Tiltmeter and imports from broker files, on one annual plan. StonkJournal is free for hand-typed trades with no cap. TradeBench is the other journal with no broker import, free, and built around planning a trade against your risk rules before you enter it. Mantis tags each trade with an emotion on an iPhone. If you would rather not type fills, Tradervue and TradeZella import them.

FAQ
Is there a free version of TradeJARnal?
No. Every new account gets 14 days of Pro without a card, and the trial does not turn into a charge by itself; when it ends you pick Essential or Pro to keep logging. The vendor's FAQ says there is no permanent free plan, and its refund policy says paid periods are not refunded.
Can TradeJARnal import trades from my broker?
No. There is no broker connection and no file import; every trade, and every options fill, is typed in by hand. The vendor presents that as deliberate. Pro's AI chart analysis can read trade details off a chart screenshot you upload, which is the nearest thing to an import.
What does the Process Grade measure?
Only how many of your own declared rules you marked as followed on that trade, with a broken rule marked non-negotiable capping the score. P&L, ticker, size, emotion and notes are left out, and no AI is involved, so a disciplined losing trade can grade A. If too much of the checklist is left blank, the grade is withheld.
What does the AI see?
Per the privacy policy, three features call Anthropic's API, each only when used. Chart analysis sends the screenshot. The weekly report sends win rate, P&L, average win and loss, compliance and the week's best and worst trades with tickers. The coach sends a summary of which rules were followed or missed, without the trade's financial details.
