AUM 13F

Asset managers rather than stocks — Form ADV, 13F, Form D and pension LPs on one page.

Best for fundraisers, allocators and fund service providers sizing up an asset manager from its filings; not for a stock picker who wants to copy a fund's latest 13F.

What it is

A due-diligence site about asset managers rather than about stocks. The home page ranks registered advisers by assets under management and filters them by fund type (private equity, hedge fund, real estate), metro area, AUM band and whether the firm files a 13F. Each firm page then joins what several public records hold on it: regulatory AUM, client-type breakdown and service providers from Form ADV, 13F holdings, Form D private-fund raises, Schedule 13D/13G stakes and Form 3/4/5 transactions from EDGAR, and pension-fund commitments read out of public pension annual reports. Related entities are grouped by matching phone numbers, addresses and directors.

The site's own guide names the audience: following industry trends, prospecting for new business and doing diligence. That is a fundraiser's, allocator's or fund-administrator's job more than a stock picker's, and it is the reason to choose this over the rest of the category. It is operated by Chen Software LLC and has been archived since April 2019.

Pricing

Two states. Free, with no account, under a daily cap on page views that no public page quantifies, and with advertising. Or $29 a month, month-to-month, which removes the cap and the ads and adds portfolios of firms with alerts. Cancellation is by email to the operator; there is no self-serve cancel, no annual plan, no team plan and no trial on the current sign-up page.

Data & coverage

Search takes names or exact identifiers — CIK, CRD, CUSIP, SEC file number, fund ID or ticker. Issuer pages turn the question round: for a ticker, the count of 13F holders and shares held per quarter, the latest filers, 13D/13G filers with percentage owned, and insider transactions. Wellington Management's page listed 13F periods back to the quarter ending December 2011.

The headline AUM is regulatory AUM from Form ADV, which is gross: longs and shorts both count, leverage counts in full, uncalled commitments count. The site's guide puts AQR at $308 billion of regulatory AUM against $194 billion self-reported. Compare it with other Form ADV figures, never with a firm's marketing number.

Pension-fund data is as uneven as its source, and the guide says so: some plans list funds, some firms, some only fees paid, and most give no amounts.

Freshness has no published schedule. On 7 October 2026 Wellington's page listed 13F periods only through 31 March 2026, although its second-quarter 13F-HR reached EDGAR on 14 August; the Form D raises page carried filings from the day before.

Integrations

None. No API, no file export, no add-in; the one copy function is a button on the AUM chart. The terms of service forbid access by any method other than the website and forbid automated scraping, so anything built on this data has to be built on EDGAR instead.

Limitations

  • Manager-first. No price data, no stock screener and no fund performance. The screen filters firms, not securities.
  • 13F's own blind spots apply — long positions in US-listed 13F securities, reported at the firm level, up to 45 days after quarter end, and here sometimes a quarter later than EDGAR.
  • Legacy issuer names. Wellington's holdings list Meta as "Facebook Inc" and Tesla as "Tesla Motors Inc", the names on old EDGAR records.
  • The free cap is undisclosed. You find the limit by hitting it.
  • A one-mailbox operation. Support and cancellation go to one personal address, the terms were last updated in January 2020, and liability is capped at the lesser of three months' fees or $20.

Alternatives

WhaleWisdom is the 13F specialist — history to 2001, an API and an Excel add-in — for a reader whose question is the holdings rather than the manager. 13F.info is the free, account-free 13F browser and also carries Form D. Fintel puts ownership, insider and short-interest filings on one stock page across thirty-odd markets. SEC EDGAR is the source every one of these reads, free and keyless, and the only route to the same Form ADV and 13F data in bulk. The rest of the category is at insider, 13F and congressional trade trackers.

FAQ

How much does AUM 13F cost?

The sign-up page on 7 October 2026 read $29 a month, month-to-month, with no annual plan and no trial. Without paying you can browse with no account, under a daily view cap the site does not quantify and with advertising. The earliest archived sign-up page, from April 2019, charged $99 a month with the first month free.

Is the AUM figure the same number a firm puts in its pitch book?

Usually not. The headline figure is regulatory AUM from Form ADV, which is gross — long and short positions both count, leverage counts in full, and uncalled commitments count. The site's own guide gives AQR at $308 billion of regulatory AUM against $194 billion self-reported.

Does AUM 13F have an API or a CSV export?

Neither. The only copy function is a button on the AUM chart. Its terms of service forbid access by any method other than the website and forbid automated scraping, so bulk work goes to EDGAR directly — see [SEC EDGAR](/tools/sec-edgar).

How current is the 13F data?

The site publishes no ingestion schedule. On 7 October 2026 Wellington Management's page listed 13F periods only through 31 March 2026, although its second-quarter filing had been on EDGAR since 14 August. Check the period stamp on any page against EDGAR before relying on it.
