What to use instead of Sharesight

Sharesight is a hosted tracker with real tax reports for three countries. What replaces it open source, in the UK and Europe, in Australia, and for dividends.

Sharesight

Still running

The hosted portfolio tracker that turns broker confirmations into money-weighted returns and tax reports the ATO, IRD and CRA recognise, free up to ten holdings and from 7 dollars a month after that.

The product

Sharesight is a card in this catalogue, and the card is the page to read for the product itself: pricing by region, the tax reports by country, the broker connections and the limitations, with pricing verified on 27 September 2026. The plan ladder on sharesight.com, read on 9 October 2026, matched it: Free for one portfolio of ten holdings, Starter at $9.33 a month or $7 billed annually for 30 holdings, Standard at $24 or $18 with unlimited holdings and four portfolios, Premium at $31 or $23.25 with ten. Every figure about Sharesight below comes from the card.

Sharesight does two things a broker statement does not. It computes a money-weighted return, using a variation of the Modified Dietz method, across brokers and currencies. And it produces tax reports that three revenue authorities recognise: an Australian CGT report on the ATO discount method, a Canadian report on adjusted cost base, and New Zealand FIF and traders tax reports. Trades arrive by confirmation email from over 200 brokers, by a short list of direct connections, or by file.

The reasons people search for something else are narrower than the product:

  • The free plan is counted in holdings. Ten, in one portfolio, and closed positions count. Sell three stocks and you have three fewer slots.
  • The tax reports do not cover the UK or the US. UK and US investors get a taxable income report and a sold securities report on average cost. There is no Form 8949 and no wash-sale handling.
  • It is a hosted service. Your transaction history lives on Sharesight's servers, the API needs Standard or above and is granted by email, and reports leave as XLSX, PDF or Google Drive files.
  • There is no time-weighted return, so the headline figure cannot be compared with a fund's published return.

If you file in Australia, New Zealand or Canada and the reports are why you pay, the honest answer is that very little here replaces it. The Sharesight vs Snowball Analytics page sets out where that line falls.

What to use instead

Open source, on your own machine. Three trackers in the catalogue are open source, and the Ghostfolio vs Portfolio Performance vs Wealthfolio page compares them in detail. Portfolio Performance is a free Java desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, and its PDF importer reads statements from more than 90 banks and brokers. Most of those are German, Austrian or Swiss, with Degiro, Trading 212, Revolut, Saxo, CommSec, Questrade and Wealthsimple among the rest. It reports true time-weighted return and IRR, which Sharesight does not. Wealthfolio keeps everything in a SQLite file, with no account and no holdings cap. It reports time- and money-weighted returns and runs on desktop, iOS, Android or your own Docker host. Ghostfolio is a server you run with docker compose, with a REST API and JSON export. Hosted Premium is $48 a year, paid once.

Europe. Parqet is the hosted tracker for German-speaking brokers: drop in a PDF statement or run Autosync from the phone, and it reports TTWROR and IRR. Its free plan has one portfolio and unlimited securities, and Plus is €99.99 a year. getquin connects European brokers by an open-banking-style credential link into one live figure, free, with TTWROR and IRR on Premium at €89.99 a year. Both price US-listed holdings from a German venue.

Australia. Navexa is the closest thing to Sharesight in this catalogue for an Australian taxpayer. Each sale is matched to its purchase parcels, the 50% CGT discount is applied parcel by parcel, and the year comes out laid against the ATO myTax field codes. It uses the same family of return method, a modified Dietz. Basic is A$240 a year, payable up front, with a 14-day trial. It connects CommSec, SelfWealth, Stake, Superhero, nabtrade, Pearler, Interactive Brokers and others, and has a REST API on every plan. On its US-dollar plans the tax half is switched off.

Dividends. Snowball Analytics is built around the payout calendar, forward income and yield on cost across 70-plus exchanges, with IRR and TWR alongside. Broker links run through Yodlee and SnapTrade, roughly 1,000 brokers across the US, UK, Europe and Asia, from Starter at $7.99 a month.

Net worth rather than a portfolio. Kubera puts brokerage accounts, crypto wallets, property and private holdings on one balance sheet, connected through nine aggregators. It costs $250 a year and has no free tier. It answers what you own today, not how a trade went.

What you give up

The tax report, in the three countries where it is real. Outside Navexa for Australia, nothing in this list produces a report any revenue authority would recognise. Portfolio Performance calculates gains by FIFO or moving average, Wealthfolio by FIFO only, and Ghostfolio, Parqet, getquin, Snowball and Kubera compute nothing you could file. A New Zealand FIF or a Canadian adjusted-cost-base calculation has no replacement here at all.

The email inbox as an import route. Sharesight parses trade confirmations from over 200 brokers, and CommSec, SelfWealth, Superhero and Charles Schwab can send them on your behalf. None of the picks does that. Every open-source option means downloading statements and importing files, and the self-hosted ones mean maintaining your own price feed as well.

Corporate actions applied for you. Sharesight adjusts for dividends, splits, consolidations and return of capital automatically, across more than 60 markets. On Portfolio Performance, Ghostfolio and Wealthfolio, an event your price feed misses is a transaction you type yourself.

Migration notes

Export the All Trades report before you downgrade. It is available on every tier, Free included, and it exports as XLSX. Saved as CSV, it is the file Portfolio Performance, Wealthfolio, Ghostfolio and Parqet all take in. The how-to on importing a broker CSV covers the column mapping, and the dividend history needs the same treatment.

Expect the return figure to change, and not because anything broke. Sharesight reports a money-weighted return. Portfolio Performance and Parqet put a time-weighted figure first. Two methods on the same cash flows give two numbers, and the guide to why your tracker and broker disagree explains which differences are method and which are data.

Keep last year's tax report as a PDF. Once the subscription lapses, the report you filed from is no longer one click away, and the new tracker will not reproduce it with the same parcel allocation.

The whole category

This page is a shortlist. Everything in Stock Portfolio Trackers is filled in against the same schema, with the fields to narrow it yourself.

FAQ

Is there an open source alternative to Sharesight?

Three. Portfolio Performance is a free desktop application that reads PDF statements from more than 90 banks and brokers and reports time-weighted return and IRR. Wealthfolio keeps everything in a SQLite file on your own machine. Ghostfolio runs as a self-hosted server with a REST API. None of the three syncs a broker for free, and none produces a tax report for any country — that is the part of Sharesight open source does not replace.

What is a good Sharesight alternative for the UK?

Nothing in this catalogue does UK capital gains properly, and Sharesight does not either. Its UK reports are a taxable income report and a sold securities report on average cost, which its own card treats as a starting point for an accountant. If you are leaving for prices or broker coverage, Snowball Analytics links UK brokers through Yodlee and SnapTrade and benchmarks against the FTSE. Parqet and getquin price from German venues, so a UK holding shows the wrong exchange's quote.

What replaces Sharesight for Australian tax?

Navexa. It matches each sale to its purchase parcels, applies the 50 percent CGT discount parcel by parcel and lays the year out against the myTax field codes, from A$240 a year on the Australian site. Sharesight's own A$59 Tax Pack is the other route if all you want is the report once a year. Nothing else in this list produces an Australian tax report.

Is there a free alternative to Sharesight?

Sharesight's free plan stops at ten holdings in one portfolio, and sold positions count towards the ten. Portfolio Performance, Wealthfolio and self-hosted Ghostfolio have no holdings cap and cost nothing; the work moves to you, as file imports and price feeds you maintain. Parqet's free plan has unlimited securities in one portfolio with a cap of five other assets. Snowball's free plan has the same ten-holding limit as Sharesight's.
