Sharesight
Money-weighted portfolio tracking with real ATO, IRD and CRA tax reports.

What it is
Sharesight is a portfolio tracker built around two things a broker statement does not give you: a return that accounts for when you put the money in, and a tax report a revenue authority recognises. Trades arrive by email, by a direct broker connection or by file import; after that dividends, splits, consolidations and return-of-capital adjustments are applied automatically across more than 60 exchanges and managed-fund markets covering 700,000-odd instruments.
The return number is money-weighted — the vendor's own term is dollar-weighted — computed with a variation of the Modified Dietz method rather than IRR, which the documentation says avoids the unstable or missing results IRR produces on volatile portfolios with irregular cash flows. There is no time-weighted option anywhere in the product.
Pricing
Four individual tiers, billed in the currency of the regional site you sign up on, priced per region rather than converted. Month-to-month for Starter, Standard and Premium: $9.33 / $24 / $31 USD; NZ$16 / NZ$38.67 / NZ$65.33 and A$12 / A$38.67 / A$65.33 including GST; £8 / £18.67 / £28 and €9.33 / €22.67 / €30.67 including VAT; C$12 / C$31 / C$39. Annual billing takes roughly 25% off. Australia also names its entry tier Basic rather than Starter, and sells a standalone Tax Pack at A$59 a year — one portfolio, unlimited holdings, the taxable income, capital gains and all trades reports, and no ongoing subscription.
Which tier carries which report is regional too. Taxable Income starts at Starter everywhere except Australia, where it and both CGT reports start at Standard; the Canadian CGT report also starts at Standard; the New Zealand FIF and traders tax reports are Premium-only. The help centre still files the Australian CGT report under a Starter tier the Australian pricing page no longer sells — where the two disagree, the pricing page is the one the vendor has to keep current.
Data & coverage
Prices are end-of-day almost everywhere. The exceptions are the US — NYSE, Nasdaq, NYSE American, NYSE Arca and BATS at 15 minutes — the London Stock Exchange at 15 minutes, and the ASX, Cboe Australia and NZX at 20 minutes. Managed and mutual funds update daily, US OTC end-of-day. Cash accounts, term deposits, bonds, property, precious metals and unlisted holdings can be tracked, but are valued by hand.
Integrations
A direct connection exists for a short list. Interactive Brokers goes through IBKR's Flex Web Service — a token and query ID pasted into Sharesight, ongoing trades only, with history a separate import. Pearler is enabled from the broker's own third-party integrations screen. A set of mostly North American brokers — Robinhood, Fidelity, E*TRADE, Public, Webull, Questrade and Coinbase — is routed through SnapTrade, which pulls historical trades at setup and syncs daily thereafter. None of these routes import short or cover trades.
Everything else that syncs does so by email. Each portfolio has its own address; you or your broker send the trade confirmation there and Sharesight records the trade within five minutes. CommSec, SelfWealth and Superhero can send to a second address on your behalf, and Charles Schwab does the same through its eConfirm settings; Vanguard and Wealthsimple are email-only with history by spreadsheet, and Tastytrade has no automatic path at all. Sharesight puts the number of brokers whose confirmation emails it parses at over 200.
The rest is files: an AI importer that reads a CSV, PDF, screenshot or image in any layout, or the Sharesight CSV template. Reports export to XLSX, PDF or Google Drive and nothing else. The OAuth API needs a Standard, Premium or Business plan and is granted by emailing the vendor rather than self-service; Xero starts at Standard. The mobile apps are read-only.
Limitations
- Real tax logic exists for three countries. UK and US investors get a taxable income report and a sold securities report on average cost — no Section 104 pooling, no wash-sale handling, no Form 8949.
- Each jurisdiction's reports run only in a portfolio set to that tax residency, so one portfolio cannot serve two.
- The Australian CGT report does not carry losses forward. Prior-year capital losses are re-entered by hand every time it is run.
- Derivatives are out of scope: options, futures and CFDs are not tracked, and the broker connections skip short and cover trades.
- No time-weighted return, so the headline figure cannot be compared with a fund's.
- Holdings, not days, cap the free plan, and sold positions keep consuming slots.
Alternatives
Snowball Analytics and Stock Events for dividend-first tracking; Portfolio Performance or Ghostfolio if you would rather self-host and give up the automatic corporate actions. Compare against the rest of the portfolio trackers.

FAQ
Which countries does Sharesight actually produce tax reports for?
Australia, New Zealand and Canada get jurisdiction-specific calculations — an Australian CGT report applying the ATO discount method at a default 50% rate with FIFO parcel allocation, a Canadian report built on adjusted cost base per CRA rules, and New Zealand FIF and traders tax reports under IRD rules. Each runs only in a portfolio set to that tax residency. UK and US investors get a taxable income report and a sold securities report computed on average cost, which is a starting point for an accountant rather than a filing.
Which brokers import into Sharesight without a CSV?
Only a short list connects directly — Interactive Brokers through IBKR's Flex Web Service, Pearler from the broker's own integrations screen, and Robinhood, Fidelity, E*TRADE, Public, Webull, Questrade and Coinbase routed through SnapTrade. Everything else that syncs does so by trade confirmation email, which Sharesight parses for over 200 brokers, including CommSec, SelfWealth, Superhero, Charles Schwab, Vanguard and Wealthsimple. Historical trades are almost always a separate file import.
What currency does Sharesight bill in?
Whichever currency belongs to the regional site you sign up on — USD, AUD, NZD, CAD, GBP or EUR — and the prices are set per region rather than converted, so they are not equivalent. Standard is $24 USD, A$38.67, NZ$38.67, C$31, £18.67 or €22.67 a month, with the Australian, New Zealand, UK and European figures including GST or VAT.
Does Sharesight report time-weighted or money-weighted returns?
Money-weighted, also called dollar-weighted. Sharesight uses a variation of the Modified Dietz method rather than IRR, and its documentation states that time-weighted return is for judging fund managers, not investors. There is no time-weighted option, so its headline percentage is not comparable with a fund's published return.
How is the Sharesight free plan limited?
By holdings, not by time — ten holdings in one portfolio, and closed positions count towards the ten. Sell three stocks and you have three fewer slots. The free plan includes automatic dividends and corporate actions but no tax reports at all.
