Looniee

Canadian accounts and TFSA, RRSP, FHSA and RESP room from broker files, no bank login.

Best for Canadian households that want contribution room, adjusted cost base and net worth from broker exports at CA$9 a month or less; not for anyone who needs automatic broker sync or holds accounts outside Canada.

What it is

Looniee is a tracker for a Canadian household's investment accounts, built around the thing a Canadian tracker has to know and a US one does not: how much TFSA, RRSP, FHSA and RESP room each person has left. It never connects to a bank or a brokerage. You download the activity or holdings file your broker already produces, drop it in, confirm the column mapping once, and the import becomes accounts, positions and a cost base; prices then refresh on their own. Holdings keep their native currency and roll up to Canadian dollars at the rate on each transaction's own date. Free calculators for TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, RESP and Home Buyers' Plan room, and a net worth calculator, run without an account, and a live demo shows the real dashboard on a sample household with nothing saved.

Pricing

Two plans, quoted from the vendor's pricing page dated 1 October 2026. Free is one person, three accounts, ten holdings and 500 transactions, with no card and no time limit; reaching a cap blocks the next new record and deletes nothing. Plus is CA$9 a month or CA$72 a year, removes the three caps, tracks up to six people, and holds everything else: analytics with look-through, drift and benchmarks, retirement projections with a Monte Carlo success rate, the tax toolkit, the account optimizer, a dividend calendar, a health score and Ask Looniee, an AI that answers questions from your own holdings inside a monthly allowance. An AI Boost pack is a one-time add-on with no price on the pricing page. The 3-day Plus trial is one per person and needs a card; refunds are by email within 30 days.

Data & coverage

Prices come from Yahoo Finance, by symbol only, and the vendor's own disclaimer says they may be delayed; Toronto-listed quotes on that feed run the usual fifteen minutes behind, so the net worth figure is delayed data, not live. The examples on the vendor's pages are TSX and US equities and ETFs. No exchange list is published, and bonds, GICs, mutual funds and crypto are not mentioned anywhere on the site, so a holding outside stocks and ETFs is unverified until you try the symbol in the demo.

Import takes .csv, .tsv, .txt, .xlsx and .xls files, up to 12 MB and 10,000 rows each, with every row reviewed before it saves and any import reversible. Wealthsimple and Questrade exports are recognised outright for activity and holdings; the five big-bank brokerages are recognised for activity and mapped by column for holdings; Scotia iTRADE, Qtrade, Desjardins and Interactive Brokers are mapped by column with no sample file tested, per the import page. Blossom, which has no export, is read from a screenshot on every plan. An activity file is what gives the performance chart and cost base a history; a holdings file alone is a snapshot. Dividends and foreign withholding are tracked on both plans. Which return figure the chart shows is stated nowhere: no page mentions time-weighted, money-weighted or XIRR.

Contribution room is computed from imported deposits, per person on Plus and for one person on Free. The import page lists its own holes: RRIF, LIRA and LIF accounts are not typed automatically, non-CAD deposits are not added to room, and transfers between institutions are left for you to check. The vendor calls the room figure an estimate to verify in CRA My Account.

Integrations

None in the API sense: no public API, webhook, MCP server or spreadsheet add-in. Your data leaves as an Excel workbook of accounts, holdings, transactions and the Planner, or as a JSON backup, from Settings, on every plan. The privacy policy names the stack, Neon, Vercel, Clerk, Stripe and Google Gemini through Vercel's AI gateway, and says those sub-processors may hold the data outside Canada, in the United States and the European Union. Import files are parsed and discarded rather than stored.

Limitations

  • No automatic broker sync at any price. Every new batch of trades is a fresh export and a fresh import; a position that updates itself needs a tracker that buys an aggregator connection, which in Canada usually means Wealthica or Sharesight.
  • Canada only, in practice. Account types, room, the T-slips and the T1135 check are Canadian; there is no US wash-sale or UK pooling logic, and Interactive Brokers is the only non-Canadian broker on the import list, mapped by hand.
  • The tax toolkit is Plus-only and stops short of a filing: ACB, gains by year and superficial-loss flags, not a Schedule 3. It pools ACB across every non-registered account in the login, so two spouses on one login share one pool where the CRA tracks ACB per person. The vendor says this itself.
  • Nothing on the site says how splits or other corporate actions are handled in an import. Check a holding that has split before trusting its cost basis.
  • Web only, and no legal operator is named: the terms refer to "Looniee and its operators" under Ontario law, and the about page to "an independent team", with no company name or address.
  • The AI does more than answer questions. Plus's insights produce a health score and "a short list of what to act on next", and the account optimizer ranks which registered account to fund first and suggests which kinds of holdings suit which account. The vendor frames both as general rules applied to your numbers, nothing names a security, and the terms say AI output "can be incomplete, outdated, or simply wrong".
  • A young product: the earliest dated page is the disclaimer of 18 May 2026, the oldest blog post is from October 2026, and there is no changelog.

Alternatives

Sharesight is the established answer for a Canadian who wants a tax report and broker connections, at a higher price and without contribution room. Wealthfolio and Portfolio Performance are free, local and import the same CSVs, with no Canadian tax logic at all. Kubera is the net-worth product for an estate with property and private holdings in it. Portseido is the multi-currency, multi-broker tracker for someone whose accounts are not Canadian. The general case is in how to import a broker CSV into a portfolio tracker, and the rest of the field is under portfolio trackers.

FAQ

Does Looniee connect to my bank or brokerage?

No, by design. There is no aggregator and no login to hand over. Holdings and transactions come from the broker's own CSV or Excel export, a Blossom screenshot, or typed entries, and market prices update on their own from Yahoo Finance. Each new batch of trades is a new file.

Which Canadian brokers can Looniee import from?

Wealthsimple and Questrade files are recognised outright, for both activity and holdings. TD Direct Investing, RBC Direct Investing, CIBC Investor's Edge, BMO InvestorLine and National Bank Direct Brokerage activity files are recognised by their column names, with holdings mapped column by column. Scotia iTRADE, Qtrade, Desjardins and Interactive Brokers are mapped column by column with no sample file tested yet, as of the vendor's import page dated 1 October 2026.

Is Looniee free?

Yes for one person with up to 3 accounts, 10 holdings and 500 transactions, with no card and no expiry. Plus is CA$9 a month or CA$72 a year and removes the caps, adds up to 6 people, analytics, projections, the tax toolkit and the AI features. The 3-day Plus trial needs a card.

Can Looniee do my Canadian taxes?

It gets you part of the way on Plus. The tax toolkit keeps average-cost ACB per security across non-registered accounts, values US-dollar trades at the day's rate, totals capital gains by tax year, flags superficial losses, checks T5, T3 and T5008 amounts you type in, and tracks foreign property cost against the T1135 thresholds. It does not produce a Schedule 3 or anything you file, and ACB is pooled per login rather than per person.

Does Looniee track accounts outside Canada?

It is built around Canadian account types and rolls everything up to Canadian dollars. US-listed holdings are priced and converted at the transaction's own date, but there is no US, UK or European tax logic and no import template for brokers outside the Canadian list beyond Interactive Brokers, mapped by hand.
