ShareScope

UK-built browser screener, company financials and portfolios — formerly SharePad.

Best for UK private investors who screen UK, US and European shares on fundamentals and keep their portfolios and capital gains in one browser tool; not for an API, placing orders or a free screener.

What it is

ShareScope is a browser-based research and portfolio tool for UK private investors, published by Ionic Information Ltd of Shoreditch, London. The name has a history that matters when you search for it. The company sold a Windows program called ShareScope from 1997, launched a web product called SharePad in 2015, and on 2 December 2024 renamed SharePad as ShareScope. The old desktop program is now Legacy ShareScope and is being retired during 2026; this card is about the former SharePad.

The screener is the centre of it: filters on fundamentals, technicals and sector rankings, custom calculations, and a library of ready-made screens that includes "Guru" filters and filters by the company's own writers, which you can copy and change. A screen opens beside a chart, financials, news or a one-page summary that updates as you scroll the list. Around that sit a Carousel of about twenty financial charts grouped into Key Data, Quality, Safety and Valuation; valuation tools for discounted cash flow, earnings power value and dividend-based value; charts from one minute to one month with Point & Figure, Ichimoku and a long indicator list; and alarms on price, news, RNS announcements, director dealings, forecast changes and technical signals, delivered by email.

Portfolios are unlimited and take shares, funds, investment trusts, ETFs and bonds. You record transactions and costs, dividends are recorded automatically, holdings are benchmarked against an index, funds are x-rayed, and the tool calculates capital gains tax. Custom Assets let you add something ShareScope does not price and import its history yourself. This is why the card is also listed under fundamentals: a large part of the product is reading one company's numbers, not filtering many.

Pricing

Two plans, no free one. ShareScope is £36 a month or £393 a year on 15-minute delayed prices. ShareScope Pro is £84 a month or £909 a year and adds real-time UK and US prices, Level 2 for the London Stock Exchange and Aquis, floating windows across monitors, the professional tier of Alliance News (400 articles a day against 125, with an unlimited archive rather than four months), twice the alarms and twice the saved layouts. Prices include VAT; American Express is not accepted.

There is no trial in the usual sense. New subscribers can cancel within 30 days for a full refund, once per household; after that, monthly payments are not refunded, because the data suppliers bill ShareScope for the whole month. A downgrade takes effect at the next billing date with no partial refund. Every plan includes phone support and free one-to-one training sessions.

Data & coverage

UK, US, Canadian and European shares are included on both plans with no regional add-on fee, along with funds, investment trusts, ETFs, gilts and corporate bonds, global indices, currencies, commodities and cryptocurrencies. The vendor names its suppliers as the London Stock Exchange, FTSE, Morningstar, Nasdaq, CME, Exchange Data International, S&P, Alliance News and MT Newswires. Live UK RNS and Alliance News are on both plans, as is US and Canadian news.

What is live depends on the plan and the market. Pro is real-time for LSE and Aquis Level 1 and 2, US stocks, investment trusts, ETFs, corporate bonds, FX, commodity spots and covered warrants. Cboe Europe and Canadian prices are delayed on both plans, cryptocurrencies are live on both, and funds, gilts, commodity futures and economic data are daily.

Integrations

None with a broker: portfolios are kept by hand, though the comparison table lists data import alongside export of tables, charts, price series and trade data. A 2018 article on the vendor's knowledge site describes a "live" table export that refreshes inside Excel 2013 or later on Windows, or Google Sheets; it does not work in Office for Mac. There is no API.

Limitations

  • Personal use only. The licence is personal and non-professional, for private investors who are not carrying out regulated activities.
  • Delayed Europe and Canada at any price. Pro does not make Cboe Europe or Canadian prices live.
  • One currency per portfolio. The comparison table lists portfolio currency as single.
  • No backtester. ShareScope's pages describe screens and alarms, not testing a rule against history.
  • No refunds after the first month, and the 30-day guarantee is available once per household.
  • The old program is going. Legacy ShareScope lost the third year of broker forecasts at the start of 2025 and the second at the start of 2026, and is to be decommissioned during 2026. Anyone still on it is being moved to this product.

Alternatives

Stockopedia is the other UK-first screener, sold by region and built around a 0–100 factor rank that ShareScope does not have. Stock Rover goes further on portfolio analytics but covers only the US and Canada. Koyfin is a research terminal over global equities and funds without the UK portfolio and tax tooling. For live charts and a free tier rather than UK fundamentals, TradingView.

FAQ

Is ShareScope the same product as SharePad?

Yes. SharePad was renamed ShareScope on 2 December 2024, with logins and account numbers unchanged. The original desktop ShareScope that the company had sold since 1997 became Legacy ShareScope, open only to existing and returning subscribers, and the company's notice says it will be decommissioned during 2026.

How much does ShareScope cost?

ShareScope is £36 a month or £393 a year with 15-minute delayed prices, and ShareScope Pro is £84 a month or £909 a year with real-time UK and US prices and LSE Level 2, read on the subscription pages on 23 October 2026. Prices include VAT. New subscribers get a 30-day money-back guarantee, once per household; there is no free plan.

Are ShareScope prices real-time?

Only on Pro, and not for everything. Pro streams live LSE, Aquis and US prices, investment trusts, ETFs, corporate bonds, FX and commodity spot prices. European shares on Cboe Europe and Canadian shares stay 15 minutes delayed on both plans; funds, gilts, commodity futures and economic data update daily, and company results and broker forecasts once a day, usually around noon.

Can I buy shares through ShareScope?

No. ShareScope's own FAQ says you need a stockbroker account to trade. You record purchases, sales and dividends in its portfolio tool, which then works out capital gains for you.

Does ShareScope give share tips?

Its FAQ says it gives no share tips or investment advice. The one exception on the site is the Alpesh Patel Special Edition, a set of stock-picking filters, a proprietary rating and a monthly newsletter sold as an annual add-on; under the current terms it is available only to Legacy ShareScope subscribers, not on the ShareScope service this card covers.
